First
of all, I would like to thank all the members of
the Taiwanese Society of Psychiatry (TSOP) and
faculties of Kai-Suan Psychiatric hospital for
your support. It is only because of your support
and encouragement, I have this chance to offer
my service to all the members and to promote all
Kaohsiung citizens’ health as well as assist on
the Mental Health Department. Taiwanese Society
of Psychiatry has progressed from the previous
annual single academic meeting and gradually
evolved into its current status with over
thousands of members. It is my greatest pleasure
to have all the supports and I would like to
take this chance to thank you all. As in the
future, I intend to follow the precedent
establishment to promote continuous growth of
the Society as well as incorporate our knowledge
into practice.
It is the time for our Society to set new
amendments: abandon all outdated rules, assist
the development of specialization (including the
specialists examinations), overcome the
hardships in the society with our knowledge, and
improve the working environment for the
patients. Furthermore, we should encourage
patients with minor mental disorders as well as
improve their stress tolerance. These are some
of the most current demanding areas of research.
The new Psychiatric amendment will be
established on 4th of July, 2008. TSOP will
discuss with people in different areas and
decide from the most professional aspect to
intercede benefits of the members, patients, and
citizens, allowing for refinement of health of
the nation. As of the National Insurance Policy,
our Society will also sincerely consider the
policies of the society in the conference to
promote all levels of the clinics and hospitals
the best medical support and guidance as well as
preserve all the rights of the members.
Recently, the clinics and hospitals
accreditation has insulted the professions and
resulted in unforeseen pressure to this society;
thus, it is our hope to relief these oppressions
and to help upgrade the quality of healthcare
for all clinics and hospitals.
Nationalization is at its beginning stage. It
is predicted that Taipei will hold the 2009 Asia
Psychiatric Association together with our annual
society conference for five days. I personally
will continue to support the event. Moreover, it
is my greatest pleasure to invite you to this
great event. So far, this even has been closely
supported by Past President Chen, Professor Ming
Jen Yang, Keh Ming Lin, Doctor Erin Chia Hsuan
Wu and Shih Ku Lin as scientific secretary.
Medical Research and Evidence-based medicine
are both important abilities that modern doctors
should possess. Permanent studying and learning
from the patients are also areas that
psychiatrists should continue to develop and
work on. The society progresses at a fast rate,
we know that in practice there are still much to
learn and to invent. The aimless spirit of
Doctor Albert Schweitzer should also be honored
and promoted. Especially, we should learn from
the past and prevent making the same mistakes
twice. Specialized knowledge, practical
establishment, preserving rights of the members,
improving sexual inequality, monitoring
infections, and medical moral are all fields
that further improvement is needed. Again, I
would like to thank all the precedent pioneers
and founders to the society for establishing the
foundation as well as all the members’ supports.
Finally, I wish everyone the best in life.
Cheng Chung Chen, M.D.
President of the 24th Session
